Who Makes a Better Ice Cream Sandwich? The Sony Xperia TL vs. The LG Optimus 4X HD

Buying an Android phone is generally a good decision. The Android operating system is sleek, fast and easy to use. However, a lot depends on the device you choose to run your operating system on. Not all Android phones are created equal. Even phones that run the exact same operating system can have vast differences. We pitted the Sony Xperia TL up against the LG Optimus 4X HD, both Android phones and both running the 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version of the operating system. They even both retail at similar prices. The Xperia TL is a recent release, and is currently Sony’s flagship model. The LG Optimus 4X HD has been on the market for a few months now, but is one of LG’s top three phones in their current catalogue. So which one is the better buy? We found out exactly how they compare and what their differences are so that we could recommend the best model to you.

Why You Should Go for a Sony Xperia TL…

The Xperia came out with a few advantages. The first on the list definitely has to be its camera. The Sony has a massive 13 MP in built camera, compared to the regular standard 8 MP camera on the Optimus, and it’s one of the best cameras on the market right now. Pictures taken with the Xperia are noticeably higher quality, have more fine detail, and are more suitable to being blown up into bigger prints. The screen on the Sony is also better quality. It’s a TFT LCD display, rather than the older simple LCD screen on the LG, making it brighter and giving it better colour reproduction. Plus, it has slightly more PPI (pixels per inch), making for a screen that has a clearer and better defined picture. Finally, you get faster maximum data speeds on the Xperia, which means quicker downloading and faster opening of web pages. Basically, the Sony is a pretty great buy.

Why You Might Want an LG Optimus 4X HD…

However, the LG has a couple of advantages of its own. Firstly, although the screen isn’t quite of the same quality as the Xperia’s, it is bigger, measuring in at 4.7 inches over the Sony’s 4.6 inches. That doesn’t seem like a huge difference, but when you’re reading emails and browsing the internet, size matters and bigger is better. Also, there’s better Bluetooth support on the Optimus, which comes equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 rather than the older 3.0 version on the Xperia. For people who often connect with Bluetooth devices, such as hands free, this means faster data transfer and that your phone uses less battery power when connecting with said devices.

And the Better Deal is…

These are both good phones. However, the Sony Xperia TL has the advantage over the LG Optimus 4X HD, you just get more phone for your money. That amazing camera as well as the better screen quality really give the Xperia the edge, and make it the better buy.
